Bonners Ferry, Idaho Man Injured at Sea:
Just 19 years old when he took a job as a processor to earn money to enroll in diesel mechanic school, this seaman had no idea of the pain and disability that faced him. On April 9, 2000, as a result of indisputable vessel negligence and unseaworthiness, his right ankle was mangled by a hydraulically-powered trolley. The trauma has caused a condition known as complex regional pain syndrome which totally disabled this seaman until he had a spinal cord stimulator implanted in August, 2004. The stimulator has finally enabled him to walk without a cane, but he will continue to suffer from chronic pain in varying degrees for the rest of his life.
