Garden Grove, California Man Injured at Sea:

On June 2, 1996, a California man was serving as a crewmember aboard a 272 foot factory trawler, offloading bags of fishmeal from the vessel to the dock at Pier 91 in Seattle.  At the time of his injury, 85 pound fishmeal bags were sliding off the end of the conveyor and, in effect, being caught by crewmembers and carried to be stacked on the trailer.  As he attempted to catch a bag of fishmeal on his shoulder as it came off the conveyor, he was knocked off of the trailer onto the asphalt surface of the dock below, landing on his left hand, shoulder, side and back.  His injuries resulted in limitations that disqualified him from physically demanding employment such as the work he was doing on fishing vessels.

CASE RESOLUTION:  Settled for $150,000.00
