Injured Fisherman Evacuated From F/V ATLANTICO Near Cold Bay, Alaska

During the morning hours of September 16, 2020, a 40-year-old fisherman aboard F/V ATLANTICO sustained a back injury near the Port of Cold Bay in Alaska.  The emergency medical evacuation was recommended.

The United States Coast Guard, District 17 command center responded by launching a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Kodiak.  The helicopter crew reached the injured fisherman several hours later, hoisting him into the helicopter and transporting him to emergency medical services in Cold Bay.

This incident demonstrates the dangers faced by commercial fishermen, both working aboard fishing vessels and in accessing emergency medical assistance following an injury.  BoatLaw, LLP has represented commercial fishermen throughout the pacific northwest for over forty years.  The firm’s admiralty lawyers have a unique understanding of the perils faced by these mariners.
